What can I say, I love Proverbs. The intent; to give instruction so that you and I can be wise and not fools. The very begining of chapter 1 sets us on our course...
Proverbs 1:2-6
"for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving prudence to those who are simple,[a]
knowledge and discretion to the young—
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance—
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise"

The end of chapter one sums it up... People don't choose the counsel of God and from that they will eat the fruit of their way and have their fill of their own devices. When life's not working for you and your not doing things God's way...it's time to ask a root question and not a symptom question.
Let the wise listen and add to their learning, let the discerning get guidance. Sound advice is out there. It's found in God's word and in the people who make a conscious choice to live in that consistently(no one does it perfectly). Let us venture into wisdom and the straight paths God has promised us in our following him!!
