Genesis 27-29 Ethical Dilemmas

Jan 9th Genesis 27-29

Sometimes in life there is a way that God asks of us. There is no doubt as to what God's intent is. Sometimes the gray has various shades and we are left   to figure some things out.
Dietrich Bonehoeffer (Pastor in Germany during WWII) was left with the ethical question of being part of a murderous plot against Hitler. When do I subject myself to the rule of authority established here on earth and when do I seek to kill an authority who is evil incarnate. No easy answers.
The picture here depicts the deception of Isaac. Rebekah has known for a long time that God's blessing rests on Jacob. While pregnant (Genesis 25:23) she was told that two nations were in her womb and that the younger would rule over the older. On the one hand this pictures feels wrong because of the deception we know is going on. On the other hand, Rebekah knows God's desire in these matters and maybe there is a reason for Isaac's blindness in a point in his life when he is ready to pronounce his blessing.
Our lives offer the same difficulty. My suggestion... when it's obvious what God wants from us we need to follow his will. When it's not so obvious, it's time to draw near to the Lord and seek Him and His way. More often than not we all know what we "ought" to do. Sometimes life is not so easy.

Following and Honoring Him
